HARTHelp Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program
Reduced Costs for Qualifying Families
HARTHelp's low-cost spay/neuter program has been instrumental in reducing the number of unwanted animals in our region. To prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy animals, the HARTHelp program is available to pet owners who qualify.
In the United States, over 2.7 million animals are euthanized every year due to overpopulation. Although the number has decreased from the time when four million animals was considered a low-estimate, there is still much work to be done. The Humane Society of the United States writes the following on the subject of overpopulation:
"About 2.7 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs—about one every 11 seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them."
To assist our region in preventing the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy animals, the HARTHelp program offers low-cost services to pet owners who cannot afford the cost of the surgeries. The program is based on income and residency. You are eligible for this service if you are a Maryland, West Virginia or Pennsylvania resident and your income falls within the Maryland WIC Income Guidelines detailed in the application. The application details what documents must be provided as proof of eligibility. If you still have questions, contact us.
