HART’S Foster Program

What does it mean to foster kittens?

First and foremost, it means saving lives. This time of year, there isn’t enough space for all the kittens brought to shelters, and staff must find a way to save them. Otherwise, their lives, which have just begun, remain at risk. That’s where kitten fosters come in. With their help, more kittens can be saved; but without their help, newborn kittens in shelters face the very real possibility of not finding a home and their lives are at risk.

Kitten fosters are responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the kittens in their care, some of these responsibilities include:

Feeding: Kittens require frequent feeding, especially when they are very young. Foster caregivers must be prepared to provide the kittens with a high-quality diet, which may include bottle-feeding, if necessary.

Socialization: Kittens need socialization to become well-adjusted, friendly, and confident cats. Foster caregivers should spend time playing with the kittens, providing gentle handling, and introducing them to new experiences.

Medical care: Foster caregivers must ensure that the kittens receive appropriate medical care, including vaccinations, deworming, and treatment for any illnesses or injuries.

Cleanliness: Foster caregivers must maintain a clean and sanitary living environment for the kittens.

What does HART provide to the kitten fosters?

Due to generous donations, HART can provide fosters with everything they will need to be successful. This includes food, medicine, toys, the support of our team, and more.

This is just a snapshot of what it means to foster kittens.

Overall, kitten fosters play a critical role in caring for vulnerable kittens and preparing them for adoption into loving homes. It is also an extremely rewarding experience.  If you think you may be interested in fostering kittens, please fill out an application by clicking the link below.
