September is Happy Cat Month!
September is Happy Cat Month, a time to celebrate our feline friends and spread awareness about their health, welfare, and happiness! To help keep your cat thriving this month (and all year long), here are three simple ways to support their health and happiness:
1. Spay & Neuter for a Healthier Future
One of the best ways to keep cats healthy and prevent pet overpopulation is through spaying and neutering. Did you know cats can start reproducing as early as 5 months old? In 2025 alone, we’ve already adopted or transported over 100 kittens, but the need is still great.
Spaying and neutering not only prevents unexpected litters, but also helps protect against certain cancers and infections.
HART offers several programs to assist pet owners who cannot afford the cost of surgery:
✔️ HARTHelp – Low-cost spay/neuter services for qualifying families in MD, WV, and PA
✔️ Macy’s Fund – Free spay/neuter for feral & community cats in Garrett County
✔️ Lifesaver – Covers the full cost of spay/neuter surgery and rabies vaccination for qualifying Maryland residents
2. Keep Up with Wellness Visits
Even if your cat seems perfectly healthy, yearly exams are essential. Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, and issues like arthritis, dental pain, kidney disease, or infections often go unnoticed without a vet’s trained eye.
At our Bredel Clinic, your cat will get the full VI-purr treatment, including receiving vaccinations, parasite checks, microchipping, dental exams, and a thorough nose-to-tail health check from our compassionate team.
Best of all, when you schedule with us, you’re not only caring for your pet, you’re also supporting HART’s mission. Proceeds from our clinic directly help rescue, shelter, and adopt homeless animals.
3. Quality Time = Happy Cats
One of the simplest ways to celebrate Happy Cat Month is by spending time with your cat. Despite their independent reputation, cats are social animals who love human attention. Play, snuggle, and enjoy quality time with your furry family member, it’s the best gift you can give them.
