HART Awarded $10,000 Grant to Support Emergency Veterinary Care for Owned Pets!

When a beloved pet experiences a medical emergency, families shouldn’t have to choose between getting their pet the care they need and keeping them by their side. Thanks to a generous $10,000 grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation, HART for Animals will continue helping families navigate that difficult situation through our Neil’s Helping Fund.

HART has been awarded a Big Bet for Pets Boost Grant to support this vital program, which helps eligible pet owners access emergency veterinary care for their beloved companions.

Helping Pets Get the Care They Need

Through Neil’s Helping Fund, eligible pet owners whose household income falls within WIC program guidelines may receive up to $1,000 in assistance for emergency veterinary care at our on-site Bredel Veterinary Clinic.

The fund helps cover urgent, potentially lifesaving treatment for conditions such as intestinal obstructions, broken bones, wounds requiring stitches, poisoning, and parvovirus (Parvo). Follow-up appointments related to qualifying emergencies are also included.

For families already facing financial challenges, the unexpected cost of emergency veterinary treatment can be overwhelming. Neil’s Helping Fund helps bridge that gap, giving pets access to critical care when they need it most.

Neil’s Helping Fund is named in honor of Neil, a rescued cat who became the beloved resident feline at HART’s clinic.

“Neil was a rescued cat who became the resident feline in our clinic,” says Dr. “Jessy” Vandevender, director of HART’s Bredel Clinic. “Neil’s Helping Fund reflects our commitment to the well-being of animals in our care and throughout the community.”

The fund carries Neil’s legacy forward by helping other pets receive the veterinary care they need, regardless of their families’ financial circumstances. Learn more about Neil’s Fund here.

Keeping Pets and Families Together

The cost of emergency veterinary care can sometimes leave families facing the heartbreaking possibility of surrendering a beloved pet because they cannot afford treatment. By helping cover qualifying emergency expenses, Neil’s Helping Fund reduces that financial burden and supports HART’s mission to keep pets and their families together.

The $10,000 grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation will help sustain the program, allowing HART to continue providing critical support to eligible pet owners during some of their most stressful moments.

“We are so thankful to the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation for helping ensure that more pets receive the treatment they need,” says Dr. Jessy. “Helping our community, regardless of their financial circumstances, is so rewarding.”

We couldn’t be more grateful to the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation for investing in the health and well-being of pets and the people who love them!
