Spay/Neuter Program
Money is Not a Barrier
Since 2003, HART has been the leader in our region for providing no-cost and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to our local residents. We do this because our founders created HART as a reaction to the fact that so many animals had to be euthanized every year. These animals were healthy, adoptable animals. Unfortunately, there were no resources to take care of them: to feed them, to house them, to pay the staff to care for them. The Garrett County Shelter tried but it costs a lot of money in staff, food, medications, and space to care for animals.
Reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs is just one part of HART's mission to improve the conditions of animals in Western Maryland and the region. HART offers no-cost and low-cost programs with funding provided by grants such as the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Spay/Neuter Grant and the Snyder Foundation for Animals.
