9. Outside
Tips for safety outside.
Never assume that your new pet will “stay around” when you get them home.
Keep them on lead or in a fence area.
Give them time to bond with your family and learn their boundaries outside.
Some dogs cannot resist the chance to chase wildlife and can become lost very easily.
After several weeks of walking the boundaries of your property you should be able to graduate them to a long-line.
If you have an underground fence system, give your dog time to learn the boundaries.
Another option would be to use an overhead cable system. This system allows the pet to run or walk back and forth vs. being tied to a tree or stake where they can only move in a circle, which often sets up a barking pattern.
