Winston’s World: One Year Home!

Winston, an adorable Dachshund, was adopted from HART in January 2025, and recently celebrated a very special milestone: his one-year Gotcha Day! His adopter was kind enough to send us an update, and it’s clear that Winston has been living his absolute best life!

From day one, Winston settled right into his new home. His mom shared that he quickly made himself part of the family, fitting in as if he’d been there for years.

These days, Winston keeps busy with all his favorite activities, including playing with toys, soaking up the sunshine, watching the world go by through the windows, going for walks, and riding along on car adventures. He’s also mastered the art of napping on his mom’s computer while she works, just to make sure he’s never too far away.

Winston has even started working on some training skills, especially as he continues to build confidence around larger groups of people. With the love and patience of his mom by his side, he’s making great progress.

To celebrate his first Gotcha Day, Winston was thoroughly spoiled, just as he deserves! His celebration included a filet mignon dinner and a pumpkin cake for dessert! One of his highlights from the past year was lounging poolside during the summer, truly living the good life. He’s also been doing great through the winter months, handling the snow and cold like a champ. No matter the season, Winston remains his mom’s devoted shadow, always eager to be involved in everything she does.

His mom shared that Winston is “the cutest boy” and that she’s incredibly grateful to have him in her life. We couldn’t be happier to see Winston thriving in his forever home.

Stories like Winston’s are what make our mission so meaningful.
