Microchip March: A Small Chip That Makes a Big Difference!

Our furry friends are part of the family, and just like any family member, their safety and well-being matter. One of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your pet and gain peace of mind is by microchipping.

A pet microchip is a tiny chip placed just under your pet’s skin, typically between the shoulder blades. The procedure is quick, simple, and relatively pain-free, and it provides lifelong protection! Each microchip contains a unique identification number that’s linked to a secure database with your contact information. If your pet is ever lost and brought to a shelter, rescue, or veterinary clinic, a scanner can read the chip and help reunite you with your pet faster.

Why Microchipping Matters

The numbers tell a powerful story. Only 22% of non-microchipped dogs and just 2% of non-microchipped cats are reunited with their families. Compare that to 52% of dogs and 39% of cats with microchips who make it back home, clearly showing how much a microchip increases the chances of reunion. Even more concerning, less than 20% of stray pets entering shelters have a microchip, meaning most lost pets don’t have permanent identification!

Permanent ID You Can Count On

Unlike collars and tags, which can fall off or be removed, a microchip is permanent. Many microchip databases can also store important medical details, giving shelters and veterinarians helpful information if your pet is found.
